A. Vogel Agnus Castus is widely used to balance hormones in women, especially those that affect the hypothalamus and pituitary functions. A. Vogel’s tincture is especially effective in premenstrual tension and other menstrual problems and has been shown to alleviate menopausal symptoms. A Vogel’s Agnus Castus is recommended for the treatment of tender breasts, fluid retention, teenage acne, menopausal symptoms and hormonal rebalance, particularly in women although much evidence suggests that men can also benefit from the treatment.
Agnus Castus (also known as the “chaste tree”) is a shrub (classed as an herb), the fruit of which is used to make the product. This tincture does not contain hormones, but instead contains ingredients such as flavonoids, iridoid glycosides and terpenoids. The combination of these natural vitamins & herbs increases progesterone production and helps to regulate the menstrual cycle. In this way, the hormones are balanced. The supporting evidence for Agnus Castus is excellent. Double-blind trials found that women who used the product found greater relief from symptoms of hormone imbalance than those who did not. Furthermore, no unwanted side effects were reported.
