Hayfever & Sinus Products

If you do not suffer from sinus problems, then you will never understand what all the fuss is about. It’s more than just a runny nose. Hay fever and sinus-related problems account for millions of missed working hours, school days and many more days of reduced efficiency. This means a big knock to our economy. Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, is the most prevalent chronic condition in the world, and affects an estimated 30% of our population.

The two different kinds of hay fever are:

  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis. Seasonal allergic rhinitis is of course, a seasonal condition. Individuals who suffer from this affliction are normally allergic to airborne pollen and spores. They will only seek sinus relief during the summer months and of course spring, when these substances are most prevalent (or during any high pollen count).
  • Perennial allergic rhinitis. Individuals who display hay fever symptoms throughout the year are said to suffer from the perennial allergic rhinitis. This indicates that these people have an allergy to certain items that are present in everyday life, like dust mites, animals, certain types of foods and household chemicals. A condition like this requires year-round allergy treatment.

You can notice hay fever by the following symptoms:

  • Sneezing or a runny/blocked nose.
  • Persistent coughing and a post-nasal drip.
  • Itching eyes, nose, mouth and throat.
  • Allergic shiners (the dark circles under the eyes that are caused due to pressure on the sinuses.)
  • Watering/red-rimmed eyes.
  • Wheezing/ breathing difficulties.

There are many excellent sinus treatments that are readily available from doctors and pharmacies, but before self-medication patients should first realize what the main hay fever triggers are:

  • The main culprit: grass pollen. An estimated 90% of people in the UK suffer from hay fever and are heavily allergic to grass pollen.
  • Tree pollen: birch tree is the most potent. Between 15% and 25% of UK citizens who suffer from hay fever are allergic to birch pollen.
  • Pollen from weeds such as nettles and plantains.
  • Wind-pollinated plants.
  • Spores and moulds.

Hay fever can manifest itself in many different ways from patient to patient. Some of us may be allergic to only one or two of the known allergens, while others may feel the rage of the whole platoon. Keep a diary of all of your known allergies plus the natural allergy remedies you use in order to combat it. Also, note down the date and time of day that you experience these symptoms. Many spores and pollens are seasonal and if you know what time of the year you are most affected, this can go a long way to identifying the culprit.

Many physicians will prescribe antihistamines which are preventative of these symptoms, but if you take some time and do the adequate research, you will discover that you can treat your hay fever symptoms in a far more natural manner. There are plenty of natural nasal decongestantson the market which may be just what you are looking for. So why not look through our hay fever products? You may just be able to wave your sinus problems a fond farewell.
